The counts of the Palatine region loved this wine and since the Middle Ages its popularity has been unbroken. Today, about 350 hectares are cultivated in the Palatinate and locals are proud of the fact that the oldest vineyard of Gewürztraminer can be visited in the village of Rhodt.
Gewürztraminer may be delicious as dessert or as dry wine. The Palatinate with its high-quality soils and its variety of vineyards allows the production of Gewürztraminer wines that vary in color and alcohol degree. They all have a modest acidity in common. Another common characteristic is their grapes in a slight red-color tone.
